In 1870 the Bloody Benders obtained a 160-acre property along the Osage Trail and established a general supply store and inn for weary travelers. In 1871 bodies were discovered nearby and the disappearance of a prominent doctor soon lead his family and the surrounding community to suspect that all was not right at The Bender Inn.
